South Wales bank staff were among those considering whether to strike over a 3 1/2 % pay increase offered by the Trustee Savings Bank and seven other firms.
In 1986 the Trustee Savings Bank was also an asset that the government did not own, but it was 'privatised' on the basis that as there was deemed to be no owner to receive the purchase money, buyers received not only ownership of the bank, but also the money they bought it with.
Companies such as British Aerospace, British Telecom, British Gas and the Trustee Savings Bank ceased to be state owned, passing into the private sector.
