Presented annually by the Chicago/Midwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Silver Circle Award recognizes individuals who have devoted 25 years or more to the television industry and have made significant contributions to Chicago broadcasting.

In its mission statement, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences vows to "recognize, encourage and advance excellence in the television industry across all media".

WSOC-TV meteorologist John Ahrens was awarded an Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Midsouth Region in January in Nashville, Tennessee.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry.

This is the fifth year that the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences host the awards which recognizes excellence in content created and designed for viewer interaction and/or delivery on a digital platform.
