In Part One, "The Amazon Archetype in Popular Culture, Literature, and Criticism," Weinbaum notes that particularly since the twentieth century, both men and women have been engaged in the scholarship of reclamation which can either (1) revive the myth of Amazonism in order to reclaim values the dominant culture has suppressed or (2) revitalize the myth, making it resonate with modern concerns.
A second approach to Amazonism, Weinbaum notes, is "reaction" to it.
