Two Ukrainian Azov Sea ports, Berdyansk and
Mariupol, are effectively under blockade by Russia as vessels are being barred from leaving and entering, Ukraine's infrastructure minister, Volodymyr Omelyan, said on Thursday.

As the Ukrainian army retreated from the shattered town, the Kiev government worried that that the rebels may continue their advance to threaten
Mariupol, a highly strategic port of 500,000 people that is the biggest city still under government control in the two rebellious eastern provinces.
"Weآ're not going to sit there and be part of this kind of extraordinarily craven behaviour at the expense of the sovereignty and integrity of a nation." He went on to accuse Moscow of "continuing to do land grabbing in Ukraine," adding that, after Kiev officials' claimed that Russia has supplied separatists with artillery in the city of
Mariupol, "what is happening with respect to
Mariupol even now is just simply unacceptable." Kerry's remarks come as calls are being made for the US and the EU to supply the Ukranian army with weapons to help them in combatting the separatists' advances.
Kiev/Sakhanka (Ukraine): Pro-Russian separatists are building up forces and weapons in Ukraine's south east and the Ukrainian military said on Saturday it was braced for the possibility of a rebel attack on the port city of
Mariupol. The Kiev military accused Russia on Friday of sending more tanks and troops towards the rebel-held town of Novoazovsk, further east along the Sea of Azov coast from
Mariupol, expanding their presence on what it fears could be the next battlefront.
The separatists were reportedly also using tanks to attack the southern city of
Mariupol.
Their opponents have since pressed forward and gained ground, advancing in the direction of the port city of
Mariupol in the south of the Donetsk region.
The port city of
Mariupol - which lies on the Azov Sea and is between mainland Russia and the Russia-annexed Crimean Peninsula - was targeted.
