British Somaliland

1940: Italian forces begin a successful invasion of British Somaliland: their occupation would be ended by a counter-invasion within eight months.

Somalia never really stabilized for any great period of time following the unification of Italian Somaliland and British Somaliland in to form the Somali Republic on July 1, 1960.

While Italy claimed south-central Somalia, Britain formed "British Somaliland" in the north.

"But British Somaliland had borders and was recognised." In 1960, the former British Somaliland gained independence as the State of Somaliland but then united with the then Trust Territory of Somalia shortly afterwards to form the Somali Republic.

(30) Due to administrative differences, the British Somaliland Protectorate was granted independence from Great Britain on June 26, 1960, (31) while the Somalia Trusteeship became independent from Italy on July 1, 1960.

Somali Republic was a combination of British Somaliland and Italian Somalia.

After the fall of British Somaliland, the British spent the fall of 1940, consolidating their positions in East Africa, integrating the above mentioned reinforcements, and launching harassment raids into Ethiopia.

After the war she was involved with the Russian Civil War and in British Somaliland in 1920.

The boundary between Ethiopia and British Somaliland was established in 1897 through treaty negotiations between British negotiators and King Menelik.
