Frequent visitors to the saltlick during the day include two species of primates, red howler monkeys (Alouatta seniculus) and white-bellied spider monkeys (Ateles belzebuth), and several species of birds, including common piping guan (Pipile pipile), plumbeous pigeon (Columba plumbea), ruddy quail-dove (Geotrygon montana), speckled chachalaca (Ortalisguttata), mealy amazon (Amazona farinosa) and yellow-crowned amazon (Amazona ochrocephala).
The names of Vlad Dracula and Transylvania, respectively, had been used in European literature, among others, by Victor Hugo (1802-1885) in the poem Sultan Mourad (1858), later included in chapter XXIV of La legende des siecles/The Legend of the Ages (1859) ["Vlad boyard de Tarvis appele Belzebuth", Hugo 1955: 278)], and by Jules Verne (1828-1905) (Le chateau des Carpathes / Carpathian Castle, 1892).
Other projects attracting attention at the Co-Production Meeting were serial killer thriller "Belzebuth," from Mexico's Emilio Portes; feature doc "Tus padres volveran," from Uruguay's Pablo Martinez Pessi; and Guatemalan village-set "El Escuadron de la muerte," from director Jayro Bustamante, who characterized it as a black comedy about getting a second chance in life.
