AMERICAN DREAM
El término American Dream, (el sueño americano), se refiere a los valores y creencias que para muchos estadounidenses son característicos de su modo de entender la vida como nación y que encuentran su materialización en la Declaración de Independencia de 1776. Con este término se pone especial énfasis en el individualismo, la importancia de trabajar duro, el hecho de que todos podemos mejorar y que la libertad y la justicia han de ser universales. Para muchos el "sueño americano" era una oportunidad para hacer fortuna.
El término también se usa de forma irónica para referirse al contraste entre estos ideales y las actitudes materialistas que caracterizan a la sociedad estadounidense actual.
