Of the 40 species, there were nine species of shorebirds, seven dabbling ducks, five diving ducks, four waders, three gulls, and two "geese" (one was light geese, which includes Snow and Ross' Geese), in addition to Ruddy Duck (Oxyura jamaicensis), American Coot (Fulica americana), White Pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchus), Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus), Tundra Swan (Cygnus columbianus), Sandhill Crane, Caspian Tern (Hydroprogne caspia), and two species that could not be identified (one dabbling duck and one sandpiper).

Located within New York City, the refuge covers more than 9,000 acres, and is a great place for spotting birds such as snow geese, lesser and greater scaup, ruddy duck, ring-necked duck, green-winged teal, northern pintail, American wigeon and gadwall.

Stone sees every bird he shoots as a trophy and wonderful table fare, whether it is a canvasback, teal, ruddy duck, mallard, merganser or swan.

The brewery also makes a special beer for Golcar Lily Day and produces a Christmas tipple - Ruddy Duck. The brewery does a three-and-ahalf-barrel brew each week and also sells bottled ales, with Golcar bottled beers available from Bolster Moor farm shop.

One of our most beautiful native waterfowl is the seldom-encountered ruddy duck (it's not on our hunting list).

Some species, such as Bufflehead (Bucephala albeola), Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula), Lesser Scaup (Athya affinis), and Ruddy Duck (Oxyura jamaicensis) have diets that are almost exclusively macroinvertebrates throughout their entire lives (Hoppe and others 1986; Bendell and McNicol 1995; Thompson and Ankney 2002), while others like American Widgeon (Anas americana) consume mostly vegetation during adulthood (Wishart 1983; Knapton and Pauls 1994).

But ducks' penises can reach considerable length (25 centimeters for a ruddy duck).
