radial velocity

n.
The velocity, or a component of the velocity, of an object as it moves toward or away from an observer, as a star or galaxy observed from Earth. Periodic changes in the radial velocities of stars may indicate the presence of orbiting planets even if the planets themselves are not directly observable.

To confirm the presence of GJ 357 b and discover its neighbors, Luque and his colleagues turned to existing ground-based measurements of the star's radial velocity, or the speed of its motion along our line of sight.
The radial velocity method looks for tiny wobbles in a star's rotation (as measured by variations in the properties of the light it emits).
The optics feed three instruments: one for astrometry (to determine stars' positions and proper motions across the sky), one for photometry (to measure the stars' colors and effective temperatures), and one for spectroscopy (to measure bright stars' radial velocity toward or away from Earth and to assess their composition).
Longitudinal S, SR, total longitudinal displacement (TLD), peak radial velocity (Pv), and time-to-peak radial velocity (Tv) parameters were calculated from three consecutive cardiac cycles, and the average value was recorded.
Figure 15(c) shows the plot of time-averaged slipstream-nomalized radial velocity w of the SRP, slipstream contraction results in the negative values of the radial velocity component outboard of the radial position of r/R = 0.6 at the axial position of x/R = 0.68.
In this article we present some basic simulated results on the (an)isotropy of the radial velocity of charged hadrons produced in Au + Au collisions at [E.sub.lab] = 10 A and 40 A GeV using the AMPT model [22, 23].
When the distribution of heat flux is linear, the boundary condition of the radial velocity of the vapor flow is linear, and it can be described as

The HCR, which recorded reflectivity, radial velocity, spectral width, and linear depolarization ratio with a 0.7[degrees] beam, was pointed at nadir from a flight altitude of 12,800 m (42,000 ft).
This method is suitable for the low antenna rotation rate, because the radial velocity remains the same during the n pulse intervals.
The definition of the circumferential degree ([theta]), tangential velocity ([V.sub.[theta]]), and radial velocity ([V.sub.r]) at the propeller plane is present in Figure 10.
