* CDD10[degrees]C (CDD50[degrees]F): The population-informed value of 1368 CDD10[degrees]C (2462 CDD50[degrees]F) was 200 CDD10[degrees]C (350 CDD50[degrees]F) higher (i.e., warmer) than the simple average value of 1161 CDD10[degrees]C (2089 CDD50[degrees]F) for the WMO sites.

Including this year, 14 of the 15 hottest years on record will have been in the 21st century, the WMO said of the findings issued during 190-country talks in Lima, Peru on ways to combat climate change.

Coincident with the release, the official results of that investigation and the awarding of the new "world's hottest temperature" extreme (134[degrees]F/56.8[degrees]C, recorded on 10 July 1913) to Death Valley, California, were posted on the WMO official website, the Archive of Weather and Climate Extremes (http://wmo.asu.edu).

The Western North Pacific, however, had recorded 30 storms by early November, above the annual average of 26, the WMO said.

While the overall warming trend in global temperatures contributes to such weather patterns, it is not the only cause, according to the WMO.

The Hadley Centre and the University of East Anglia in Norwich supplied much of the analysis in the WMO statement, which includes data through mid-December.

The WMO Greenhouse Gas Bulletin shows that global concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and nitrous oxide have been increasing steadily over the past years.

Fu's picture was one of almost 1,000 photos submitted to the WMO's request for 13 images for its next calendar, according to the Liberty Times.

A consolidated analysis by WMO of five leading international datasets showed that the global average surface temperature in 2017 was approximately 1.1AdegC above the pre-industrial era.

The CO2 level is now above the symbolic and significant level of 400 parts per million concentration in the atmosphere, the WMO said.
