(lŭk′sôr′, lo͝ok′-) A city of east-central Egypt on the eastern bank of the Nile River. Built partially on the site of ancient Thebes, it includes the Temple of Luxor built in the reign of Amenhotep III and added to significantly by Ramesses II, who had colossal statues of himself erected at the complex.
