(lĕn′ĭn), Vladimir Ilich 1870-1924. Russian founder of the Bolsheviks, leader of the Russian Revolution (1917), head of the revolutionary government (1917-1921), and first head of the USSR (1922-1924). Lenin held that workers could not develop a revolutionary consciousness without the guidance of a vanguard party and that imperialism was a particular stage of capitalist development.
