The workshop, conducted by an international expert, had been designed as part of a plan to support the Pakistan Bureau of statistics with the integrated agriculture survey - which the bureau plans to initiate with technical support from FAO. The learning activities ranging from the main steps involved in planning an agriculture census to imagery for agriculture statistics and GPS field area measurements helped the participants identify gaps in the methodologies currently being employed to produce agriculture statistics and provided recommendations on steps to minimize these variations.

The approval of the first FAO-led GCF project in Asia at the board's meeting in Songdo, South Korea, is being seen as an important step forward in the FAO's support for countries to respond to climate change in partnership with the new fund created to support the efforts of developing countries against climate change.

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has provided FAO with a grant of nearly US $ 35 million for this work, said a news release here on Sunday.

To enhance household nutrition, FAO developed specific vegetable kits including okra and amaranth seed for all farmers.

The delegation members were FAO Representative to Bangladesh Robert Doulas Simpson, Assistant Representative (programme) Nur Ahmed Khondker and Programme Officer Halima Neyamat.

The agreement was signed at FAO representation office in Muscat by H H Sayyida Dr Muna bint Fahad al Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation, SQU and Jose Graziano da Silva, director general of FAO recently.

The major thrust of FAO's technical assistance to Iran has been in the areas of capacity building, policy and strategy development, crop production, livestock and animal health, fisheries and forest management, and, emergency and rehabilitation programs, as reported by FAO official website.

Highlighting the importance of this collaboration, Mina Dowlatchahi said, 'FAO looks forward to working with UNHCR for contributing to efforts aimed at improving food security and nutrition and stimulating income generation for the refugees and their families.

The document was signed by Mina Dowlatchahi, the FAO representative in Pakistan, and Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad, the vice chancellor of University of Sargodha, on Friday while FAO Partnership Officer Rosana Frattini, Seed Sector Consultant Dr Shakeel Khan, Assistant Representative/Head of Programmes Nasar Hayat and deans and faculty members of various faculties of the university were also present.
