(kăl′sĭ-dŏn′, kăl-sēd′n) An ancient Greek city of northwest Asia Minor on the Bosporus near present-day Istanbul. An important Christian ecclesiastical center, it was the site of an important ecumenical council (ad 451), which met to resolve questions concerning the nature of the Incarnation.
